WordPress.com will allow you to upload images locally but the old Blogger.com doesn't. Hence, the software can use your own FTP server to post the images.

FTP means file transfer protocol. FTP Server will allow you to upload files to the specified folder. Most of you should be using cPanel and you can create an FTP server from there. Just login to your web-hosting' cPanel and look out for the button that says FTP server and then go to "Create New".

Specify a directory which will be allocated for the FTP. It can be anything like "images" or so on and this folder will actually be created as a sub-directory on your root domain. For example, if WebMagnates.org is your root domain and you create an FTP server with folder "images", the file uploaded here can be accessed at WebMagnates.org/images/FileName

Hope this helps. It may still be intimidating for some beginners so please post your question below and I will try to help.

Nick,

Hi. Sorry if this sounds really stupid, but could I clarify this process please, both for myself and for others whi may even be less techincal than myself?

If I enable that feature and set the correct details in the software, are you saying that the software itself both posts the image from a feed to the ftp server and then extracts it into the blogger blog automatically?

Just wanted to clarify just how much has to bedone manually on this which could cause people not to attempt it.

Yes, when you enable this feature, if the software finds an image in an article (it will be shown in the software if extracted), it will upload the image to this FTP server automatically and adds it to the article when it is made to post to blog.

In case of WordPress blogs, you don't need to enter anything and the software will automatically publish the image onto your blog by using your username and password provided while adding the blog.

Hope this helps?

So does the image remain in the subdirectory? Is it called to blogspot from the directory or moved? Just curious in regards to storage space. Thanks

Of course the image will be stored in the sub directory and called by your blogger.com posts. It canot be moved because Blogger.com does not allow hosting of images on their own servers. However, you can find a ton of free hosting services providing FTP too. Bottom line, the images won't be taking much space. Typically an image would be around 30kb and you could have about 30 photos in 1 MB. So with the minimal 50 Mb account, you could have at-least 1500 images.

Hi Nick,

I'm at my cpanel but couldn't find the icon/name 'ftp server', is there another name?

I can see 'File Manager', 'Anonymous FTP', 'FTP Accounts' , 'FTP Session Control'. Please advise. Thanks
